Buying a used Ford can be a much easier process when you know more about the certified pre-owned program. Many of our customers want to know about this process because of the many different benefits associated with buying a certified pre-owned vehicle. We’re going to cover the basics, but if you have questions, feel free to connect with us!

What is a certified pre-owned warranty?
It’s a type of warranty offered for a rigorously inspected, used Ford. Certified pre-owned coverage is available for vehicles less than six years old that pass a rigorous 172-point inspection by Ford technicians. Then, Ford offers special warranties for those certified vehicles. Your local Ford dealer may also offer their own warranties as well.
What do the technicians inspect for the certification?
Check out the full 172-point inspection checklist; it’s pretty extensive!
Here are some examples of what they’ll look at beyond a normal inspection:
- Airbags and safety belts
- Glass (like the windshields) and mirrors
- Engine belts, hoses, wiring and mounts
- Brakes, parking brake and calipers
- Tire wear and pressure
- Struts and shocks
- Cruise control
- Defrosters
- And much more!
There are many items on this list, but in addition to inspecting these elements, there would also be a road test, a review of the vehicle’s history (using CARFAX) and an inspection of its diagnostic systems.

Is “certified pre-owned” worth it?
In a nutshell, it’s one of the best ways to purchase a used Ford. Certified pre-owned benefits include not only a general peace of mind from that extensive inspection and warranties, but you also will get these complimentary benefits:
- 24/7 Roadside Assistance: This includes towing assistance, flat tire changes, jumps and fuel delivery if you’re stuck on the side of the road without gas.
- CARFAX Report: Getting this report is a part of the official Ford certified pre-owned certification process; ask for a copy of this report.
With all this, you can really go places with a used Ford. Certified pre-owned incentives also include the fact that a thorough inspection saves a lot of stress while shopping for your next used car!
Please note that this information is for the 2020 Ford certified program; it’s likely to be updated in the future, and your trusted, local Ford dealer will have more information on what’s available.
